O Mundo das Flores or the Flower World in English is an interview project about a person's personal and professional life.
My role in this project was to film (image capture), prepare the scene with the right light (light technician) and edit part of the final video.
This interview is about a job that is slowly disappearing, a traditional plastic flower making.
During the pre-production phase we had to gain the trust of this person to be able to let her talk about herself so we could understand if it would go according to the academic project. After understanding the point of view and her past, we decided to go continue and get ready with all the material needed. Cameras, lights, microphones, and other essential materials to be used in the production phase.
The scenario we decided to use was her atelier, but it was very narrow, so we had to use as few cameras and lights as possible. Otherwise we couldn't film the angles we wanted to. After getting everything ready and confirming it was possible to start the interview. She was very shy and not open, so we decided during the pre-production to slowly ask less personal things first and she would slowly start to get comfortable with us.
All the main camera angles were close to the person's face to get the idea that the viewer was the one talking to her. We wanted to let the viewer see the space, inside and outside of her atelier too, so the exterior of the atelier and some parts of the inside were filmed. Also, the making of these flowers was important to understand her job.
In the final phase, post-production, I edited part of the video with a group member. The video had to be simple, show her personality as best as possible and keep it under 10 minutes, including the credits.
